In an effort to promote energy efficiency and help customers lower their energy consumption and reduce their electric bills, the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) encourages customers to take advantage of the ENERGY STAR sales tax break in Florida.
From September 19 to September 21, 2014, shoppers will get a sales tax break on certain ENERGY STAR products. ENERGY STAR products include room air conditioners, air purifiers, ceiling fans, clothes washers, clothes dryers, dehumidifiers, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, water heaters and swimming pool pumps. The sales tax break also applies to certain products carrying the WaterSense label for water efficiency.
The sales tax holiday applies to the first $1,500 of the purchase price of one item. A customer is limited to one purchase of each specific type of ENERGY STAR or WaterSense product over $500.
“This is the perfect opportunity for everyone to save money, both on the purchase of new appliances and in the long run on their electric bill,” said Barry Moline, executive director of FMEA. “Public power utilities in Florida are committed to promoting energy efficiency and helping Floridians lower their electric bills.”
