Founders and early leaders of Florida’s joint action electricity agency tell the stories of the organization’s defining moments in a series of new online videos. The three brief videos were released on the Florida Municipal Power Agency’s (FMPA) website to highlight the Agency’s 35th anniversary.
Locally owned electric utilities in Florida met for the first time on Feb. 24, 1978, to found an organization that would give customers the home power advantage of a local utility, backed by the resources of a statewide organization.
“For 35 years, working together has proved the best way for Florida’s municipal electric utilities to maximize home power benefits, like reliability, service, local investment and accountability, for the mutual benefit of all their customers,” said FMPA General Manager and CEO Nicholas P. Guarriello. “These web videos will bring our story to a new generation of public power leaders.”
FMPA members recognize that, even as they celebrate the past, it is essential to focus on the future of municipal electric utilities. During FMPA’s 35th anniversary year, activities are planned to focus on communicating the home power advantage so customers understand the benefits of their locally owned electric utilities.
